APHED HeadQuarter, Guwahati

·         Assam Public Health Engineering Department (APHED) is the nodal State Government's department for the water supply and sanitation programmes for the rural areas of Assam.

·         APHED is manned by highly qualified and experienced professional staff and has been serving the people of the state since 1956.

·         To facilitate the process of mobilising collective energies of the organisational functionaries as well as all other stake holders the Mission, Vision and Thrust Areas of the organisation have been identified with participatory approach.

ORGANISATIONAL SETUP

 

Organisational Structure            Manpower

 

 

The Assam Public Health Engineering Department (APHED) comprises double staged organisational set-up: one is administrative and the other is directorate. The secretariat is headed by Commissioner & Secretary. He is assisted by one Deputy Secretary,two Under Secretaries and other officers & staff.

 

At the directorate level, there are two Chief Engineers (PHE) in the APHED - one is Chief Engineer (PHE), Assam and the other is Chief Engineer (PHE), Sanitation, Assam. Chief Engineer

(PHE), Assam, looks after the Water Supply Sector while Chief Engineer (PHE), Sanitation, Assam, looks after the Sanitation Sector. Chief Engineer (PHE),

Chief Engineer (PHE), Sanitation, Assam is assisted by 2 Nos. of Executive Engineer (PHE) and other technical and non-technical staff.

 

There is another individual set-up assisting Chief Engineer (PHE), Assam known as Quality Control Circle and is headed by a Superintending Engineer (PHE).

 

For execution and monitoring of the departmental works the state of Assam is divided into seven PHE Zones, each zone being headed by an Additional Chief Engineer (PHE). The Zones are

 

Lower Assam Zone

 

 

Bodoland Territorial Council Area Zone

 

 

North Assam Zone

 

 

Upper Assam Zone

 

 

Barak Valley and Autonomous Council (General Area) Zone

 

 

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Zone

 

   and   North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Zone  

 

The Additional Chief Engineer (PHE) of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Area Zone is also known as Director, BTCA

 

 

There are nine different PHE Circles under these Zones, each of which is headed by an Superintending Engineer (PHE). The Circles are

North Lakhimpur Circle

 

 

Jorhat Circle

 

 

Dibrugarh Circle

 

 

Nagaon Circle

Under these circles there are forty four PHE Divisions. These Divisions consist of eighty seven PHE Sub-Divisions covering the entire state of Assam.
